Civil Aviation Authority Board Approves The SIAL Project
Members of the SIAL delegation gave a detailed presentation to the Civil Aviation Authority Board during a meeting on 17th February 2005 at the Ministry of Defence. The meeting was presided by Secretary Defence & Chairman CAA, Lt. General Hamid Nawaz. The Civil Aviation Authority Board accorded post-facto approval to Sialkot International Airport.
   
Warm Welcome Accorded To DG Civil Aviation Authority
Chief Executive SIAL, Mr. Khawar A. Khawaja, Conveners/Directors and members of SIAL Management extended a warm welcome to Director General Civil Aviation Authority, Air Marshal (Retd) Pervez Akhtar Nawaz on his visit to the SIAL Airport site on 4th February 2005. Members of the SIAL Management briefed him on various projects and conducted him to various sites like Cargo Complex, ATC Tower & FCR Building, Vault Room and the Runway.

Director General CAA, Air Marshal (Retd) Pervez Akhtar Nawaz praised the efforts and unique initiative of the exporters and industrialists of Sialkot. He also appreciated the operational plans and the potential of the International Airport in the export triangle of Pakistan comprising Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot. He highlighted the positive impact an International Airport can have, to develop the entire region.

Addressing the gathering DG CAA said, “SIAL has set an example by carrying out such a mega project at bare minimum cost and has become a prototype for others.” He was extremely delighted to note the quality and standards of construction and said that it was heartening to see the spirit, optimism, will and professionalism behind the project.



DG CAA endorsed his approval to the proposition of SIAL for starting domestic passenger flights along with the cargo operations immediately after the commissioning of the Airport. He granted approval for the training of SIAL employees free of cost at Civil Aviation Training Institute Hyderabad (CATI) and assured full support from the Civil Aviation Authority for the human resource development, training and assistance in technical and operational functions of the Airport.

Prime Minister Allows Cargo And Passenger Flights
A delegation comprising Chief Executive SIAL, Mr. Khawar A. Khawaja, President SCCI, Mr. Qaiser S. Shabbir, Minister of Industries Punjab, Mr. Ajmal Cheema, District Nazim Sialkot, Mian Naeem Javed, Directors SIAL including Mr. Mehboob A. Sheikh, Mr. Muhammad Hanif Khan, Malik Muhammad Islam, Mr. Muhammad Arshad Durrani and General Manager SIAL, Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Chaudary met the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shaukat Aziz on 14th January 2005 at Prime Minister House,

Islamabad. Minister of Defence, Mr. Zahid Hamid, Secretary Defence & DG CAA, Air Marshal (R) Pervez Akhtar Nawaz, Director Technical Services CAA, Air Cdre Nayyer H. Faruqui and other senior officials from Ministry of Defence and Civil Aviation Authority were also present at the meeting.

The Prime Minister lauded the progress of the project and appreciated the challenging initiative and efforts of the Directors and Shareholders of SIAL. He extended his advice to the senior members of SIAL to establish the Airport as the Cargo hub for the whole region. He assured his full support to the project and granted approval for cargo and international passenger flight operations from Sialkot Airport.

Ground Breaking Of Chenab River Bridge By President Of Pakistan
President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf inaugurated the construction of the Shahbazpur Bridge on the river Chenab in a ground breaking ceremony, about 10 kilometres away from Sialkot International Airport. The construction of this bridge will reduce the distance between the cities located at either side of the river. It will provide an easy access to the whole region including Sialkot International Airport, Sambrial Dry Port, Export Processing Zone Sialkot and the industries of Sialkot. It will prove to be a gateway for the people of Gujrat, Kharian, Lalamusa, Jhelum and Azad Kashmir. The new bridge will enhance industrial development and export promotion for this region, improve communication for the people along with supporting defence objectives.

Chief Executive Worldwide Cargo Group Visits SIAL Head Office

Chief Executive Worldwide Cargo Group, Mr. Sohail Yasin visited SIAL Head Office on 29th January 2005. He was received by senior officials of SIAL and was briefed about the project at length. During the briefing, Airport's strategic location and potential was also highlighted.

Mr. Sohail Yasin appreciated the landmark project of SIAL and acknowledged the courageous initiative taken by the exporters and business community of Sialkot to undertake this project on self-help basis. He added that the international airport will bring great revolution and prosperity in the whole region.

Federal Minister Ejaz ul Haq Meets SIAL Management
A SIAL delegation including Chief Executive, Mr. Khawar A. Khawaja, Directors and other members of SIAL Management met Federal Minister, Mr. Ejaz ul Haq in Hotel Holiday Inn, Islamabad on 14th January 2005.

Federal Minister appreciated the fact that SIAL is a milestone endeavour taken by the exporters and business community of Sialkot on self-help basis and extended his full support to the project.
